Matteo Berrettini v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head
Berrettini has won both their previous meetings. This will be a second meeting between the two in a final. The Italian had beaten Krajinovic to lift the Budapest title in 2019.
Red-hot Berrettini Reaches Another Final
Defending champion Matteo Berrettini extended his unbeaten streak to eight matches as the Stuttgart Open champion reached a second final in two weeks with a straight sets victory over Botic van de Zandschulp in the semifinal at the Queen’s Club on Saturday.
The World no. 10 has now won 19 of his last 20 matches on grass, suffering his only defeat to Novak Djokovic at the Wimbledon final last year.
On Saturday, the Italian put up another powerful performance, defeating Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets.
In a closely contested first set, Berrettini was the first to break in the sixth game, converting a ninth break point in the nine-deuce game. Van de Zandschulp got the break back three games later, but was broken immediately by the Italian, who claimed the first set.
Berrettini got the solitary win of the second set in the sixth game to complete a 6-4, 6-3 victory. He had served eight aces in the match and had won 88% points on his first serve.
This was the 26-year-old’s third straight sets win this week. He had not dropped a set against Dan Evans in the opening round and Tommy Paul in the quarterfinal. The only time he was stretched to three was in the Round of 16 by Denis Kudla.
The second seed will be the favourite to win a seventh career title on Sunday.
Krajinovic Stuns Cilic
Filip Krajinovic had never won a tour-level match on grass court before this tournament, however, the 30-year-old won his fourth match of the week on Saturday to stun Queen’s Club legend Marin Cilic and advance to a fifth ATP final of his career.
Cilic, who had won his 35th match at Queen’s in the quarterfinal, was no match to the Serbian in the semifinal. Krajinovic dominated the contest from the beginning, breaking the Croatian twice in the first set and once in the second to win 6-3, 6-3.
Cilic held six break points in the match, but the Serbian was equal to his task on all six occasions, denying the World No. 17 even a single break in the match.
Ranked No. 48th in the world, Krajinovic would be relieved to have won his seminal in straight sets, particularly after the last two matches when he had to come-from behind to win in three. He had beaten Sam Querrey 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round and Britain’s Ryan Peniston 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinal.
Krajinovic had begun the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jenson Brooksby. He has never won a final, having lost all four previously. Can he be fifth time lucky?
Berrettini v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip
Form, experience and their head-to-head record all favour Berrettini in the final. Although Krajinovic has been playing exceptionally well in the tournament, beating Berrettini will be a huge ask. Also a 0-4 record in the final would put more pressure on the Serbian. Expect the Italian to win in straight sets.
